Bistable Solenoids, or bistable electromagnets, are electromagnetic devices with two stable states. Unlike traditional monostable solenoids, bistable solenoids can remain in either of the two stable states without external power supply until the next trigger signal is received. This feature gives bistable solenoids significant advantages in energy saving and reducing equipment complexity.

The working principle of the bistable solenoid is based on the interaction between electromagnetic induction and permanent magnets. It usually contains one or more coils, a movable permanent magnet core, and a mechanical structure for limiting the movement of the core. When the coil is energized, the magnetic field generated interacts with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet, causing the core to move to another stable position. Once the core reaches the new position, even if the coil is de-energized, the core will remain in that position due to the magnetic force of the permanent magnet until the next trigger signal is received to reverse the coil power, thereby changing the position of the core.
